Clinical Guidelines

To ensure the best possible fit and function of the TAP® 3 appliance, submit the following case materials:

  • Upper and Lower Full-Arch Impressions or Digital Scans – Accurate captures are critical for retention and comfort.
  • Bite Registration – Record-centric occlusion.
  • Protrusive Bite – Register the bite at approximately 60-70% of maximum protrusion.
  • Vertical Dimension – Ensure adequate interocclusal space for appliance bulk and comfort.

If you’re sending digital files, include STL files, protrusive records, and any special instructions about patient preferences.

The TAP® 3 is a removable appliance and requires no cementation.

The TAP® 3 is a removable appliance and requires no cementation. Patients are instructed to wear it nightly during sleep and to clean it daily. The anterior screw mechanism allows the dentist or patient (with instruction) to incrementally advance the mandible to an optimal position over time. This reduces the need for remakes and supports long-term adaptability.

Chairside Support & Adjustments

While the TAP® 3 is designed to minimize the need for adjustments, some minor modifications may be necessary:

  • Fit Check – Ensure secure but comfortable seating on both arches.
  • Hook or Screw Tension – Adjust the mechanism to relieve pressure or improve mandibular advancement.
  • Acrylic Relief – Modify contact points if the patient experiences discomfort.
  • Polishing – Smooth and finish adjusted areas to enhance oral tolerance.
