Porcelain Veneers: The Ultimate Smile Enhancer

Dental Veneers

There is no question that our society is extremely focused on appearance. With so much digital exposure on social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook, our selfie culture places a significant emphasis on beauty. Dentistry plays a huge role in affecting the way someone sees themselves and how they believe others perceive them. In fact, dentistry comes in second, just after the makeup industry for nonsurgical beauty enhancements. No procedure is more prevalent in improving a person's appearance than porcelain veneers. Also, no procedure provides a more instant smile enhancement than the usage of dental veneers.

Indication and Contraindications of Dental Veneers

The smile is one of the first things people notice about another person. Whether we like it or not, appearance creates impressions that can affect many areas of our lives, including our ability to earn a living. One Yale University study from Daniel Hamermesh found that employers pay five percent more to attractive employees. It is no wonder then that cosmetic procedures such as veneers are such an essential process in dental practices. Veneers offer solutions to imperfections that affect teeth such as the following:

In contrast, there are situations where dental veneers will not be the best option for a specific patient. It is crucial to understand when to consider other restorative options to ensure the success, satisfaction, and longevity of veneers. Some of the contraindications for dental veneers are the following:

When the case falls within the parameters indicating when to prescribe a dental veneer, the results can be incredible. The correction of smile imperfections can provide life-altering benefits to those patients who seek out this treatment option. At Burbank Dental Lab, we have done thousands of these cases and, as a result, have developed three different types of dental veneers to address the individual needs of each case. These dental veneer types are the Nano® Press & Layered Veneers, SimplyThin Veneers, and Classic Feldspathic Porcelain Veneers.

Nano® Press & Layered Veneers

Nano Veneers - Dental Lab

Prescribing Burbank Dental Lab's proprietary Nano® Press & Layered Veneers is best in cases where strategic block-out is required. Veneers are fabricated using IPS Empress, a leucite-reinforced ceramic, with a flexural strength of 160mpa, or IPS e.Max, a lithium disilicate material with a flexural strength of 470mpa. These veneers are pressed and then layered to achieve desired results. Prescribing these veneers in cases with a need for more aggressive preparation design is crucial. They are great for closing diastemas, correcting severe alignment issues (instant orthodontics), flat papilla, and correction of shade changes of up to three steps or more such as from an A4 to an A1. The color shifts in these restorations have a lot to do with the wide range of ingot shades available, as well as varying opacity levels.

SimplyThin Veneers w/ e.max®

SimplyThin Veneers

Another proprietary product from Burbank Dental Lab is the SimplyThin Veneer. Using IPS E.max (lithium disilicate), the fabrication of veneers at full contour is possible. The steps involved in making SimplyThin Veneers consists of using a color appropriate ingot, and the characterization is applied using opal essence stains. The color is then locked in with a glaze layer. These veneers should be prescribed in cases where minimal or no-preparation veneers are required. They are great when only minor color changes are needed and teeth are in proper alignment.

Classic Feldspathic Porcelain Veneers

Feldspathic Porcelain Veneers

These classic dental veneers are entirely hand layered with feldspathic porcelain. This porcelain has a flexural strength of 100 mpa. In cases where moderate color and shape changes are the goal, these veneers work best. Since they are a layered veneer, they provide for the ability to strategically block out darker unfavorable underlying colors that may be the reality of some natural tooth surfaces. With this method, it is possible to block out the underlying color while still allowing for a vital natural-looking translucent appearance. The net thickness of these veneers is .5mm. These dental veneers are fabricated on either platinum foil or directly on a refractory die.

Smiles By Design® Team

Porcelain veneers are a large part of the services provided in most dental practices. These cases are often life-changing, and patients who have their expectations met and often exceeded become one of the essential marketing tools for the dental office. The social proof afforded by referral marketing is critical to a practice's growth. Therefore, it is vital to get these cases right the first time. This is why here at Burbank Dental Lab, we have created the Smiles By Design® team. Our team minimizes the possibility of a veneer disaster.

The Smiles By Design® teams' technical staff is specially trained in handling these complex cases and making the veneer process an excellent experience for the doctor and patient. The technicians that work on these cases have been trained with hundreds of hours in advanced courses. They have taken live patient over-the-shoulder programs, LVI, Spear Institute, and many more. They understand occlusion, tooth morphology, color, and internal characterization. Using a Smiles By Design® team approach will ensure the case follows through from the initial appointment to final delivery. The best way to ensure optimal results is to enlist the expertise of the team's expert technical support right from the beginning of the porcelain veneers procedure.
