1. Ivoclar Milling Solutions

Invoclar Milling Solutions at Burbank Dental Lab

Burbank Dental Lab has added Ivoclar PrograMill PM7’s to its technology tool belt. The PM7 is an ideal performance mill that has wet and dry processing capability. The precision 5-axis harmonic drive allows for the processing of a wide range of materials and indications, with vastly improved accuracy over previous generations of mills.

The PrograMill PM7 has a fully automatic material management system that allows Burbank Dental to mill several different materials in a series without disengaging the operations of the mill. The ability to load multiple types of material blocks into the mill will allow Burbank Dental Lab to decrease turnaround time while increasing overall quality.

Burbank Dental Lab will be focusing on two specific materials with the PrograMill PM7 in 2019:

e.max restorations that are milled crowns that, thanks to the PM7’s accuracy, will compete with pressed restorations in terms of fit and accuracy while passing on production savings to our clients.

Burbank Dental Lab has been beta testing and perfecting our workflow in order to provide milled dentures via Ivoclar's Digital Denture process. In the first quarter of this year, Burbank Dental Lab will be launching our digital denture program using the Ivoclar PM7 mill. We will be able to deliver THE most accurate fitting and durable denture ever produced, with the potential to save you chair time and appointments.

2. Carbon 3D Printers

Burbank Dental Lab Carbon 3D Printers

Burbank Dental Lab added Carbon 3D printers in 2018. The initial application of the Carbon 3D printers was in the production of the industry's most accurate 3D printed models and custom trays.

Following are additional upcoming offerings from Carbon 3D Printing coming soon to Burbank Dental Lab:

  • 1
    Occlusal Guards
  • 2
    Guided implant surgery appliances
  • 3
    Printed Dentures

The world’s 1st FDA cleared printable denture base + teeth materials

Burbank Dental Lab will be offering printed dentures produced with DENTCA resin for Carbon 3D printers, and available to produce both printed denture bases and teeth. The solution is composed of two FDA-cleared (Class II) materials: DENTCA Denture Base II and DENTCA Denture Teeth. When used together, these two materials produce high-quality digitally manufactured dentures. DENTCA denture try-in is also available as part of the solution for temporary fit evaluation before production of final dentures.

3. Expansion of KATANA Zirconia offerings

Expansion of KATANA Zirconia offerings at Burbank Dental Lab

Burbank Dental Lab has been offering Katana for the past year and has seen excellent results. We have been using Katana HTML restorations and are now adding the more translucent Katana STML to our menus of zirconia restorations.

KATANA STML

Katana STML is more translucent than Katana HTML with a light transmittance of 38% compared to 31% in the HTML material, but still with a substantial flexural strength of 748 MPa. Katana STML is recommended for anterior smile zone single units and 3 unit bridges and single unit posterior restoration. In the Katana STML zirconia, the light is transmitted in the incisal area and blocked in the cervical area. It is still recommended that HTML be used for longer span restorations and posterior bridges.

4. Original Straumann® Custom Abutments from Burbank Dental Lab

Burbank Dental Lab has collaborated with Straumann Implants to incorporate Straumann's validated workflow that provides Straumann® Original abutments within a  CAD/CAM workflow that has been approved by the FDA.

Straumann® CARES® for dental labs means validated, digital workflows from scan to manufacture. It’s a comprehensive package of first-class hardware and software dedicated to supporting you in meeting all the upcoming challenges of digital dentistry.

Burbank Dental Lab is using Straumann® software to integrate the predefined parameters from the milling machines in our state-of-the-art Straumann® / amanngirbach mill, designed for an optimal design for titanium abutments.

In the upcoming weeks, I will expand on each of these agendas as well as additional digital agendas that will add valuable restorative options to your digital workflows as well as conventional workflows.

Burbank Dental Lab looks forward to serving your needs with these innovative solutions. Stay tuned to this newsletter for the latest updates on new products and clinical techniques that will enable you to provide even more excellent restorations to your patients.
